Good For Her's Feminist Porn Awards

This past weekend was the third annual Feminist Porn Awards, which are organized in the Great White North by the Toronto-based, women-owned sex shop Good For Her in celebration of feminist and sex positive porn. 
Granted, it's an awards show, which means weird little clear butt plug trophies (one of Morty Diamond's two trophies is pictured at right), acceptance speeches and hob-nobbing, but this is an event for which I have a lot of hope. The fact that they've managed to organize it three years in a row, and with increasing levels of awesomeness - this year's Friday night award ceremony was followed by a Saturday night film festival - means that it'll hopefully keep going and keep growing.
Morty Diamond, whose made-in-NYC docuporn Trans Entities: The Nasty Love of Papi and Wil won awards for "Most Tantalizing Trans Film" and "Most Deliciously Diverse Cast," says that, "The vibe at the FPA's is of absolute excitement and fun without the posturing and attitude you might come by the more "pro" trade/award shows." The FPAs exist to celebrate and encourage the growing part of the industry that is made up by directors and producers who are concerned both with the quality of the final product and the ethics of making content that respect the people putting their asses on the line and up for public consumption. Alison Lee, one of the organizers of the event, told me that, "Watching the community come together to put this all on is so awe-inspiring! And I love the way this event inspires discussion."
