Love Art Lab: The Green Wedding
Posted at 1:29 PM May 16, 2008

On Saturday, May 17th, Annie Sprinkle and Elizabeth Stephens are getting married (beware of auto-play sound file saying "we love you") for the fourth time in as many years. And if you're in the Bay Area, you're invited.
When former porn star/sex-positive icon Annie Sprinkle and professor/performance artist Elizabeth Stephens fell in love during their first kiss, they thought their love was too terrific to just keep to themselves. Being the artist types they are, they decided to do a seven year long art performance that would be marked by annual weddings, each with a color and a theme. The colors each represent one of the chakras, and this year they are over the halfway hump and whooping it up in green. The entire project is called the Love Art Lab, and it's unfurling is documented on their website.
Though the couple requests that attendees do not bring material gifts, they encourage collaboration, and everyone is required to wear or be green. Here are some of their suggestions for attire:
Wear green and dress in the theme(s) of the wedding. Be formal, not so formal, in costume, sculptural attire, or be as you wish. But whatever you wear, please make it green. For example; green evening gown, forest ranger,Tara, herbalist, Martian, a hemp bikini, praying mantis, Al Gore, leprechaun,Earth Mother, a tree, Jolly Green Giant, a greenback, Robin Hood, green snake handler, Girl Scout, bio-diesel dyke.
Knowing the brides, the event will be by turns entertaining, emotional, and chock full of San Francisco weirdness.
