Eric Gioia Has Been Spending Time on Craigslist Erotic Services

Councilman Eric Gioia has a dark vision of internet prostitution. In yesterday's AM New York, there's an article about an investigation he and his staff have been conducting about Craigslist erotic services ads. First of all, its hard to believe that "prostitutes use the internet as a virtual street corner!" (I'm paraphrasing) is actually news, but whatever. This article totally conflates coercive prostitution and trafficking with consensual sex work, which is terribly short sighted. Yes, vulnerable women should be protected from predatory business operators, but a police crackdown on consensual prostitution is a pretty big waste of time - not to mention tax payer's money. Spending three weeks looking at Erotic Services ads on Craigslist? Really, this council member's office doesn't have other stuff that needs getting done?
