Seeking Volunteers for Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program
Posted at 11:10 AM Jun 09, 2008
The Mount Sinai Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program is seeking volunteers who live in Manhattan or Western Queens.
From SAVI's site:
The mission of the Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program at Mount Sinai (SAVI) is to provide free and confidential counseling, advocacy, support and referral services to past and present survivors of rape, sexual assault, incest, and domestic violence, and to their families and friends.SAVI conducts an annual training for Volunteer Advocates who see hundreds of survivors at the nine hospitals served by the program. More than 200 sensitive and caring SAVI Advocates are available to support survivors in emergency rooms during medical treatment and evidence collection. This immediate crisis intervention is critical to eventual recovery.
Though the site still lists the dates for 2007 training, the 2008 training dates are similar, running in October and November (including two full weekends). Volunteers must complete all training workshops for a total of 40 hours.
