Second Life Herald's Post 6 series: Synthetic Smut
Posted at 11:41 AM Jul 15, 2008

Azdel Slade dropped me an email about a new experiences she's just had in Second Life (which Wikipedia describes as "an Internet-based virtual world video game"): posing for the Second Life Herald's Post 6 series of dirty pictures. Of course the event was blogged. In addition to talking about what it's like to strip off clothing and pose for a camera in Second Life, Azdel muses about the distinction between "virtual" and "synthetic." The word "virtual" is certainly eye-rollingly overused when it comes to talking about the Internet, and Azdel prefers "synthetic" because it synthesized things actually exist, while virtual things do not. Something to think about.

Hi Audacia,
Just thought I'd jump in here to say that Azdel happily embraces the term Synthetic from the site augmentology.com. Readers may want to check out similar concepts and issues there?
